Fish oil and diabetes: Why fish oil is a must-have for diabetics

Diabetes occurs when our body is unable to manage the amount of sugar in our body by normal means. Usually, people take in sugar as bread and other starchy foods. These foods change into energy in the body and that is why carbohydrates/glucose is crucial for the body’s functioning.

Symptoms of diabetes: Diabetes has now become a common ailment. Millions of people suffer from it. Since it is genetic, many youngsters to succumb to it. Once you have diabetes, there is no cure. It is a chronic ailment which you have to live with. There is no possibility of a complete treatment except that you can monitor the ailment in the right way.

Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disease which is indicated by abnormally high blood sugar levels in the body due to low hormone insulin. The continuous glucose can damage the blood vessels and this is the root cause of many health problems associated with diabetes.

Types of Diabetes: There are two major types of diabetes:

The person generally affected by this kind should keep blood sugar levels in check by a regular diet and exercise regime. In severe cases, the patients should be on insulin for the proper functioning of the body.

Type 2 diabetes: This type is known as Non-Insulin Dependent Diabetes Mellitus.  Type 2 diabetes patients body produce insulin which is either inadequate or becomes saturated. The excess insulin produced is of no use as the body loses its ability to utilize insulin in the right way in Type 2 diabetes.

A healthy diet is vital: A healthy diet plan is necessary and vital to person who suffers from diabetes. Some foods that need to be avoided by diabetics are bread, white flour, white rice, sugar and white potatoes. These are simple carbohydrates that are digested very quickly and cause increased levels of sugar in the blood.  We can use fruits, vegetables, whole grains,  oats, wild rice, vegetables, fish, shellfish, soy, Asian mushrooms, herbs, spices, cinnamon and tea without sugar.

Adding fish oil to your diet can help you with diabetes mellitus. This is because fish oil is rich in omega-3 fats which supports the transformation of sugar in the body as and when it is consumed. Adding fish oil capsules or food sources for food seems to be a wise decision for those who have the difficulty of managing their blood sugar level in the blood due to diabetes.

Exercise regime: Regular exercise can help in controlling blood glucose and triglyceride levels and overall cardiovascular health. Patients with type 2 diabetes can control their blood sugar in the blood by incorporating strict discipline in their food and exercise habits. This can help in the long term as it can reduce your medication intake too.
