When the stomach belches: Fish oil for gastritis
Gastritis is a group of disorders that affects the stomach. Gastritis can cause the stomach lining to become inflated and cause several unpleasant symptoms. People with gastritis probably have indigestion, nausea, vomiting, weight loss and swelling. Gastritis can be cured only if people adjust their diet, under the guidance of the doctor.
Several people experience gastritis due to food and substances they intake which irritates the stomach and the digestive tract. The only way to reverse this is to stop eating those foods. Things like tobacco, alcohol, acidic beverages, and painkillers such as ibuprofen or aspirin can cause gastritis in men. Eliminating these substances from the body is very important for those who want to eliminate gastritis.
Fish oil for gastritis: Gastritis can be cured/treated with fish oils on account of their high omega 3 content. However, before that you need to know about gastritis. The condition can be divided into three categories:
- Erosive and hemorrhagic gastritis
- Non erosive and nonspecific gastritis
- Specific gastritis indicative of a disorder
Signs and Symptoms of gastritis
- Stomach upsets
- Vomiting or nausea
- Abdominal discomfort and pain
- Irritation in the stomach
- Indigestion (dyspepsia)

Gastritis infections can be caused by:
- Helicobacter pylori bacteria
- Herpes simplex virus
- Parasite and fungus
Gastritis can be caused by infection, irritation, autoimmune disorders where the body’s immune system mistakenly attacks the stomach or back flow of bile into the stomach (bile reflux). Gastritis can also be caused by a blood disorder called pernicious anemia.
Patients with gastritis should also drink at least 2 – 4 liters of water daily and exercise at least 30 minutes a day five times a week. They should take vitamin supplements to correct nutritional deficiencies that may exist, including vitamins B, E, C, zinc, calcium, magnesium and selenium. A multivitamin is usually enough to meet these nutritional deficiencies and is mostly satisfied my fish oil supplements with essential fatty acids and omega 3.
Dosage: Gastritis requires daily dose of omega 3 fish oil supplements of 1000 mg to reduce and subsequently eliminate inflammation.
Omega 3 works as a stabilizer for the cell wall to reduce inflammation and restore balance. If it is difficult to obtain a normal diet, fish oil supplements are a good alternative to avoid the gastritis problem. But, seek the advice of an expert physician before you take fish oil supplements.
