Inflammatory proteins are called cytokines. Cytokines play a role in eroding bone and stripping cartilage. These inflammatory proteins are decreased by Omega-3s.
There is a one-cell-thick layer of tissue that feeds nutrients to the cartilage and conceals joints. Omega-3s affect this one-cell-thick layer to counter rheumatoid arthritis. Although not proven to stop rheumatoid arthritis you should experience a reduction in stiffness and fewer tender joints. Researchers concluded that if you take 1.2 grams of fish oil daily for one month, then there is a 60% chance that you will experience some improvement in your rheumatoid arthritis according to a Univeristy of Pittsburgh scientist’s study of 2007.
