Research has not yet been concluded and, therefore, no scientific conclusions can be made. However, it is hypothesized from other evidence that Fish Oils may alleviate the severity of asthma. Asthma is caused by an inflammation in the airways. Since Omega-3s decrease inflammatory proteins (see Joints), the logical conclusion to be proven by subsequent studies is that Fish Oils may decrease the inflammation causing asthma.
The evidence is from a 2007 Harvard study by Jane Burns, ScD in which over 2000 teens (ages 16 – 19 years of age) were studied. It was determined that those teens with the lowest Omega-3s intake (22 milligrams daily total of EPA and DHA Omega-3 Fatty Acids) were at 70% increase for the risk of asthma.
